The Best Time to Plant a Tree… 2019 in Retrospect from a Business Consultant

I love working as a business consultant in January.  Have you noticed there is a buzz of energy that shows up this month?  Can you feel it?  People are ready to reinvent themselves and to transition their businesses to new heights and are looking forward to a better tomorrow. How about you?  Are you thinking about growing your business this year?

I would like to take this time to share what some of my clients have done this past year because they said YES to growing and evolving themselves and their businesses.  As a business consultant you might expect me to say “you can do it,” but here are people just like you to let you know that “yes, you REALLY can do it!!”

One client bought her first house – at 30 years old.  She is over-the-moon happy about that accomplishment.  She has worked hard the past couple of years to create and grow her business.  When I first met her, she was still an employee helping someone else build their dream. But she knew she was meant for more and she wanted the opportunities that being self-employed offered.  She is smart and talented with an entrepreneurial heart.  I’m beyond thrilled for her.

Another longtime client sent me a Christmas Card telling me about her year of teaching in ….

(wait for it) …..   France, Germany, Japan, England, Scotland, Italy, Slovenia, Holland, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the US.

When she and I first met she had no idea that this is where her journey was going to take her.  It was an unspoken yearning and beyond her wildest dreams.  This result did not happen overnight. It has been years in the making and now she is out there making a global impact.  She is amazing and her gifts change lives.

Another client achieved two major conditions of satisfaction for her business that she greatly desired.  Her business had begun to not be much fun over the past few years due to several factors and they were all function issues within the business.  We were able to address all of them, create a plan for moderate growth and target the creation of financial stability.  She did all of this and more!  When we met recently she shared something else she had gotten as a result of our working together, she got back that ever-important, non-renewable resource: TIME.  She recovered about 8 hours per week that is now available for her family and children (who are young).  This achievement has given her exactly what she was seeking – happier clients, more money, and more time for her family.  She now has greater satisfaction with having a business and is eager to grow her business even more in 2020.

I met with yet another client in back December of 2018 who shared that what she REALLY WANTED was to grow her business in a BIG way and she did just that!  To put her results into perspective, good growth is 20%.  Her efforts produced more than a 40% growth in revenue.  Do the math folks…  take what you made last year and multiply it by 1.40.  What would that kind of growth mean to you?  This growth will allow her to hire more people (and she is a generous employer) and she has also been able to find more ways to give back to the community (because she has a generous and loving heart).

Success is not an event, it’s a result!

What are your dreams for 2020?  Do you want to grow your business to make more money?  To have more financial stability? To have more time?  You can do it if you set out a plan now and put it into motion.  You don’t have to know HOW you will produce your desired results (that’s what training is for!), you need only to know WHAT results you want to produce, create a PLAN that supports them, and then stay on the path and do the work.  Do you need a guide?  When I coach my clients as a business consultant, we write out their goals and create a plan to get them there, together.

Your business should be giving back to you – meeting your conditions of satisfaction, whatever that means to you.  Enjoy being an entrepreneur.  Have a business and life you love. I know 2020 is going to be a great year for my clients.  Are you ready to make it YOUR year?
